چکیده

Dynamics of amorphization and fracture in SiSe 2 nanowires are studied using the molecular-dynamics method. We find that fracture is initiated in an amorphous region at the nanowire surface. Local amorphization propagates across the nanowire while multiple cracks start at the boundaries of the amorphous region. Results for the time evolution of amorphization, crack propagation, and fracture are discussed. [S0031-9007(96)01188-X]

Stress effects on the initial lithiation of crystalline silicon nanowires: reactive molecular dynamics simulations using ReaxFF.

Silicon (Si) has been recognized as a promising anode material for the next-generation high-capacity lithium (Li)-ion batteries because of its high theoretical energy density. Recent in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that the electrochemical lithiation of crystalline Si nanowires (c-SiNWs) proceeds by the migration of the interface between the lithiated Si (LixSi) shell an...

Area Effect of Reflectance in Silicon ‎Nanowires Grown by Electroless Etching

This paper shows that the reflectance in silicon nanowires (SiNWs) can be optimized as a function of the area of silicon substrate where the nanostructure growth. SiNWs were fabricated over four different areas of silicon substrates to study the size effects using electroless etching technique. Three different etching solution concentrations of silver nitrate (AgNO3) and hydroflu...

Pressure-induced amorphization in the nanoindentation of single crystalline silicon

Large-scale molecular dynamics simulations of nanoindentation on a (100) oriented silicon surface were performed to investigate the mechanical behavior and phase transformation of single crystalline silicon. The direct crystalline-to-amorphous transformation is observed during the nanoindentation with a spherical indenter as long as the applied indentation strain or load is large enough. This a...

Fracture-induced amorphization of polycrystalline SiO2 stishovite: a potential platform for toughening in ceramics

Silicon dioxide has eight stable crystalline phases at conditions of the Earth's rocky parts. Many metastable phases including amorphous phases have been known, which indicates the presence of large kinetic barriers. As a consequence, some crystalline silica phases transform to amorphous phases by bypassing the liquid via two different pathways. Here we show a new pathway, a fracture-induced am...
